Ninja Summer Camp Animatic

For the shuriken scene, I may end up changing it again slightly (it seems to be the only scene I always make major changes to). There are obvious new changes in this version, like obviously, it's rendered out. More things are textured, like the sign (that was kinda important). I added some animation to help some scenes read better in my animatic. However, of course, it's not fully animated yet. That will come within the next few months.

UDK CTF Dungeon Level

This was the level I made using UDK for Unreal Engine 3. I modeled, and unwrapped everything (except the stairs) in XSI Softimage, and brought it all into UDK. Some textures I used from the Unreal Engine, and others I pulled from Google, and applied it to my unwraps. I had a floor I made on my own, but I didn't like it as much.

This level was made for my Level Design class at CATO.

Level Design Pics

I'm just going to say that methinks I've finally finished my level. It's funny, a week ago, I didn't even have anything in UDK yet, and nothing textured except the chest. After getting it into UDK, I had several issues with the program spontaneously crashing at times, but I eventually found away to avoid that. Aaaaaaand some textures are based from Zelda, and the floor texture is one of the in-game material textures (ditto with the fire, but I made the particle effect). Also, it's made to be a CTF level.

This shows most of my level, or the main part of it.

Outside the stage, there's a ramp where snipers can go onto, and well, snipe down people.

Ninja Summer Camp Animatic WIP2

Just a minor update on things. Added textures, and costumes. Changed the camera a bit for the opening shot. Nothing much else that's different from my previous render. I still have yet to light my scenes, and other things.

I used to have all of my scenes in ONE SCENE. When I heard how bad of an idea that was, I decided to take time to split up my scenes into 5 different scenes. That took a while to do, which kinda took some time away from actual work on this. Apparently it's for the best though.

There are still some other things I need to do from when I got critique on my first animatic WIP:

First set needs a bit more. Sign is good, but it just needs more. Maybe some dirt/grass. Faint sirens. Grass should be grassy. Mountains in bg. Clouds.

Voices need to be cleaner...?

Shurikens hitting closer to Moom, Hand comes up sooner, but not too rushed. Shift eyes slightly over, and then back...

Disclaimer goes by, then moom comes out, and house collapses on him. (Still have yet to make house collapse)

Dirt patches under bamboo (Started, didn't finish)

Some sort of Something in the background...

Moom and Guy ninja designs

They're pretty basic, but I still wanted something other than typical Guy and Moom. I mean, they're ninjas, right? Guy is the Sensei, and Moom is the Ninja Kid. Sooooo Here are my designs:

Ninja Summer Camp Animatic WIP

It's far from being finished, but eh, at this point, I'm satisfied with what I have. I changed the shuriken scene to make more sense... I mean, it makes more sense to talk about the kid who's struggling to break free. I can pretty much start actual animation soon.

Facial Rig (EDIT)

I tried to get all the shapes working, but there are still some controls that don't do anything, even if I have plugged everything in. I find that odd... it could be a problem with the ICEtree. However, that wasn't the issue I wanted to work out at the moment. For some reason, I'm having a problem when I parent the tongue (which I now made shapes for it) to the TeethTongueParent null, the Jaw Controls don't move the null, even though it's constrained to the polygon cluster. I honestly don't know that is causing it, and I hope someone could find a solution to this. Version9 is the version without the tongue parented to the null, and Version10 is the version with it parented. At least the bottom teeth work, but I don't know why the tongue doesn't.

OLD VERSION
It's not fully functional like it should be, sadly. Or maybe it's supposed to be like that? Either way, I X'd out what doesn't work. The other controls still work just fine. The Rig is mine, however, the head model is a default XSI head model.

Ninja Summer Camp Layout

Methinks I'm done with the layout, except that there are still a few things that need to be re-textured. That could wait until another time.

Apparently this is just the setting... Layout is posted in latest update

Storyboard Revision

It's still not perfect, but it's enough to start production of the layout, models, etc.. I'm taking out the "Technical Difficulties" scene, and probably going to change the camera in the shuriken scene to make it read better.

Storyboard

I feel I should have put this up earlier. I mean, it will be the main thing I'm going to be working on. I'm working on my demo reel, and well, this is what I have for my storyboard. I was already critiqued on it, so I know what needs to be changed (honestly not a whole lot).

The story is about a Ninja Summer Camp. It's shot like a commercial to make parents think this camp would be best for their kids, but not really. You see some of what the kids do at the camp, and fail. It's pretty sadistic humor.

Stuff I did

These are early 2D animations I did.

My 2D mime acting animation. I honestly could have done better, perhaps with overshoot/settle for the last pose. Proportions also changed a bit throughout the whole thing.

My favorite 2D animation: Acting to dialogue. What is a man?!

I used the same audio track as I did with my 2D animation, and made it into 3D. This is as far as I had gotten with it. I'm figuring I should have tried a shot like this for my 2D animation. At least in 3D, I can change the camera around to get any shot I want without messing up the actual animation.

This is just a 2D run cycle. The overlapping action in the breasts was added after the initial running animation. (may take a few seconds or a minute to fully load)

My Take and Run Off Screen 2D animation. Raving Rabbids are awesome. 'Nuff said.

First Blog

Hiya, I'm Justin A. Jones, or you can just call me Jay6. Today, I decided to start on a blog. This is where I'll show work that I've done in school, or perhaps even side projects. I probably wont update this often unless it gets more popular, so check my Deviantart, or subscribe to my Youtube channel if you want to keep up to date on everything I do.
